AN OPEN LETTER TO POETRY PROS & NEWBIES ALIKE:
First off I would like to let you know how hard it was for me to not make a terrible joke about ‘poetry pros’ (like prose… get it?) but that aside, I have an announcement to make: we are now accepting poetry submissions! *kids cheering* Submitted works do not need to be your own, just make sure the author is properly credited. You will also receive recognition for the submission if we decide to publish it, so send in those poems!
and here I make my contribution, a personal favorite of mine:
"Barbie Doll" by Marge PiercyThis girlchild was born as usualand presented dolls that did pee-peeand miniature GE stoves and ironsand wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy. Then in the magic of puberty, a classmate said:You have a great big nose and fat legs. She was healthy, tested intelligent, possessed strong arms and back, abundant sexual drive and manual dexterity. She went to and fro apologizing.Everyone saw a fat nose on thick legs. She was advised to play coy, exhorted to come on hearty, exercise, diet, smile and wheedle. Her good nature wore outlike a fan belt.So she cut off her nose and her legsand offered them up. In the casket displayed on satin she laywith the undertaker’s cosmetics painted on,a turned-up putty nose, dressed in a pink and white nightie.Doesn’t she look pretty? everyone said.Consummation at last.To every woman a happy ending.
so go on, open up your notebooks & grab a pencil, because we want to see the best you got :-) good luck all you poets & poetry fanatics!

"Barbie Doll" by Marge Piercy
This girlchild was born as usual
and presented dolls that did pee-pee
and miniature GE stoves and irons
and wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy.
Then in the magic of puberty, a classmate said:
You have a great big nose and fat legs.

She was healthy, tested intelligent,
possessed strong arms and back,
abundant sexual drive and manual dexterity.
She went to and fro apologizing.
Everyone saw a fat nose on thick legs.

She was advised to play coy,
exhorted to come on hearty,
exercise, diet, smile and wheedle.
Her good nature wore out
like a fan belt.
So she cut off her nose and her legs
and offered them up.

In the casket displayed on satin she lay
with the undertaker’s cosmetics painted on,
a turned-up putty nose,
dressed in a pink and white nightie.
Doesn’t she look pretty? everyone said.
Consummation at last.
To every woman a happy ending.

so go on, open up your notebooks & grab a pencil, because we want to see the best you got :-) good luck all you poets & poetry fanatics!
